Monkey Business

"The sun is a mass of incandescent gas, a gigantic nuclear furnace," says a popular educational song. It is true, the sun is the lightbulb to our planet/moths. One thing everyone should know, and the monkey thinks it bears repeating, never stare directly at the sun. If you must stare at something in the sky.....try clouds.

My favorite astronomer warned me that the word gas can be confusing. The sun is not some blow-over of orange smoke. If you were really to visit the sun you'd find the swirling gases have the same density as maple syrup. And that's kind of as thick as egg yolk.
